ADHD Assessment & Diagnosis
A comprehensive ADHD assessment is available for children and adolescents requiring a structured psychological evaluation. Our psychologists follow a structured, evidence-based evaluation process to determine whether diagnostic criteria are met and to provide clear guidance to families.
We understand that seeking an ADHD assessment can feel overwhelming. Our approach is careful, transparent and collaborative, ensuring families receive a thorough evaluation along with practical recommendations for next steps.
Who May Benefit from an ADHD Assessment
An ADHD assessment may be appropriate for children or adolescents experiencing persistent difficulties such as:
- Inattention or difficulty sustaining focus
- Impulsivity
- Hyperactivity or restlessness
- Organisational and time-management challenges
- Emotional regulation difficulties
- Ongoing academic or school-related concerns
Assessment is recommended when symptoms are affecting daily functioning at home, at school, or in social settings. A comprehensive evaluation helps clarify whether ADHD or another condition may be contributing to the difficulties observed.
Our Assessment Process
The assessment begins with a detailed parent consultation to gather developmental history, current concerns and contextual information. With consent, information may also be obtained from teachers or other professionals involved in the child’s care.
Standardised questionnaires and structured clinical measures are used where appropriate to support diagnostic clarity. The assessment process considers differential diagnoses and co-occurring conditions to ensure conclusions are carefully formed and clinically sound.
Following completion of the assessment, a feedback session is conducted to explain the findings, discuss whether the diagnostic criteria have been met, and outline recommended next steps.
Reports and Documentation
Where required, a comprehensive written report can be prepared for schools, universities, NDIS applications or other third-party purposes. Reports include assessment findings, diagnostic conclusions where applicable and practical recommendations.
The scope of documentation is discussed in advance to ensure families understand the purpose and associated requirements.
Ongoing Support Following Assessment
An ADHD assessment is often the first step in understanding a child’s needs. Where appropriate, therapy may focus on skill development, executive functioning strategies, emotional regulation and confidence-building.
With consent, coordinated communication may occur between treating professionals to support consistent management. In some cases, referral to a paediatrician or psychiatrist may be recommended if further medical assessment is required.
